Rancher "Big" John Cannon is a The High Chaparral character played by Leif Erickson. He is the founder and owner of The High Chaparral.

Cannon was first married to Annalee. The two had a son named William, often called Billy, Blue or Blue Boy by his family and friends. Together with John's brother Buck they settled in Arizona Territory and started the High Chaparral ranch.
After his wife was killed during an Apache raid, John married Victoria Montoya, the daughter of Don Sebastian Montoya. The marriage meant peace between the two families that did not get along very well at the beginning of the Cannon's new life. John's new brother-in-law, Manolito Montoya comes to live with his sister on the High Chaparral ranch.
