Evelyn Dutton

Evelyn Dutton was the wife of ranch owner John Dutton. She was played by Gretchen Mol.

Evelyn married and started a family with John Dutton. John and Evelyn were blessed with four children: Lee, Jamie, Beth and Kayce. They live and grew up on the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch. Kayce extended the family, marrying Monica Long and having a son named Tate, the grandson of John & Evelyn Dutton. ^[1] Another one of their sons, John, was named after Evelyn's husband John, but he died shortly after his birth. ^[2]

Their oldest son Lee died when he was protecting the family ranch in a feud with the Broken Rock Indian Reservation. Lee’s brother Kayce came too late to help him as he died of a fatal gunshot wound by Robert Long. ^[1]

Death[]

Evelyn never came to know her grandson as she died when she was out horse riding on March 30, 1997, together with her daughter Beth and her son Kayce. Her horse got spooked and landed on her. Beth went to look for help and Kayce - young as he was - tried everything to protect her and stop her from dying, but help came too late and she had breathed her last breath when her husband found her. ^[3]
